Hello, we are Matt and Ian! Thank you for choosing to learn about our story and for considering us to partner with you on this journey.
Our lives are based on a few guiding principles: honesty, integrity, and laughter. We have known from early in our relationship that we wanted to build our family through adoption. We have an amazingly loving and supportive extended family and friends that are almost as excited as we are about continuing this journey.
Hello, we are Matt and Ian!
We were both born and raised in Pennsylvania. We had lived within five miles of each other for over five years but our paths never crossed. Once the stars aligned, we were both single and finally connected. We started to talk and after a few months, we went on our first date. We have been inseparable ever since! We share the same values in life and quickly knew that our future together was solidified.
After moving in together, we rescued a puppy (Macy). A year and a half later we were engaged. After a year of planning, in 2014, we had a large wedding with family and friends in Philadelphia.
We both have spent a lot of time in our careers. Ian is a Paramedic and Matt is a business professional and attorney. We both enjoy our careers and feel blessed to have flexible schedules that allow for a good work/life balance.
We were lucky enough to adopt our daughter, Olivia, in 2017 and have spent the last three years amazed at watching her grow into a beautiful and independent little lady. In 2018, we were blessed with being able to adopt our second daughter, Violet. We currently spend most of our time with our daughters, watching them grow and have fun. They certainly keep us on our toes. We are looking forward to adding another child to our family through adoption.
Ian’s confidence is infectious. He is so confident in who he is and so comfortable in his own skin that people are drawn to him. He is very genuine, which allows him to make friends with anyone, and is so personable and friendly. This is one of the things that I admire most about him. He has made me feel so comfortable in my own skin, and he pushes me to be better every day.
Ian is also a great “dada,” he has stepped away from full-time work to care for Olivia and Violet and he loves every minute of it. He shows so much love and positive guidance that it is clear in their smiles how much they love him. Ian is a natural teacher, having taught EMS and first aid classes for most of his career, and loves to teach the girls from cooking to art projects.
Matt is truly one of the most selfless people I have ever met. He makes me laugh all the time and is sure to tell me daily that he loves me. He always puts others before himself and keeps me grounded. He is not only selfless with me, but he is genuinely an amazing person who treats everyone equally and is willing to help anyone in any way he can. He is such an amazing person who I love wholeheartedly and couldn’t imagine myself with anyone else. He truly is my soulmate.
Matt is a great daddy. He is so loving and caring with Olivia and Violet. Their pure excitement when running to him at the end of every day when he gets home from work is one of the best parts of the day. He is extremely patient and loves to try to explain the workings of the world to Olivia and Violet, even after hearing “but what else” for the ninetieth time. He also is an excellent storyteller. He can make up a story about princesses, unicorns, or fairies on the fly that captures the girls’ attention where they are hanging on every word.
We live in eastern Pennsylvania, just outside of Philadelphia. Our home is a two-story house located in a quiet neighborhood. We love the openness of the home and specifically that the family room, kitchen and playroom are all connected so we can do all the things we love together: eat, play, and laugh. We have a large backyard that is a great open place to play and has our own playset.
Our neighborhood is filled with families with children of all ages. It is a great place to raise a child. We are lucky to be located in one of the best school districts in the county. Our neighborhood is lined with sidewalks which allows us to go on wagon rides, bike rides, and walks to the nearby park.
We live near malls and shopping districts, but in a neighborhood away from major highways or roads. We love the area that we live in because it is far enough from the city to experience the quiet and rural living, but close enough to be able to go to museums, the zoo, or other activities.
One of the greatest experiences of our lives has been to become parents. We talked for a while about how our lives would change and we couldn’t have even dreamed how awesome it would be. Raising Olivia and Violet over the last years has been an absolutely incredible experience. They fill our lives with love, laughter and unending cuddles. We are all excited to go from a family of four to a family of five.
Olivia is a curious, sweet and intelligent three-year-old. She is very inquisitive about all things. She is silly and loves to laugh. She is very well spoken for a three-year-old and loves to learn new words and what they mean. Her favorite word at the moment is hilarious. She is just about to start going to school and cannot wait to learn, play and meet new friends. She is excited to become a big sister again!
Violet is a caring, independent and determined two-year-old. She likes to do things on her own once she learns how to do it. She is curious about the world and spends much of her time exploring. She loves to chase her sister around and mimic everything that she does. She is excited to become a big sister!
We both have large extended families, so we spend a lot of time with our parents, siblings, nieces and nephews, and even our aunts, uncles, and cousins. From holidays to birthday parties to BBQs; there is at least one family event a month. Our siblings have children and we love spending time with our nieces and nephews playing trucks, Sesame Street, and Barbie.
We spend a lot of the summer at the beach with our family and love to watch Olivia and Violet play with their cousins. We spend our holidays with our extended family and have kept the same traditions from when we were growing up, such as still sitting in the present chair at our grandparent’s house on Christmas day or eating Sauerkraut soup on Christmas Eve. We are excited to continue these same traditions as our family grows.
TRADITIONS. We love holidays with our families. Christmas Eve is one of our favorites. Ian’s mom is one of ten, so on Christmas Eve, the entire family is together at Gram’s house. We have a traditional Slovak meal of Sauerkraut Soup, Haddock, and Pierogis. Before dinner Gram gives everyone a piece of blessed bread and wishes everyone a Merry Christmas. After dinner, we break down all the tables and set-up for presents. The day starts early and ends late but it is a great time to spend with our family.
WE LOVE TO TRAVEL. Our favorite place to visit is Boston. It is a great city that is small enough to explore but big enough to be an adventure every time we go. It is a city that is full of learning experiences, great food, and a lot to do within walking distance. We also enjoy going on cruises as it allows full relaxation with little worry. We have recently fell in love with Disney vacations and watching the excitement and fun grow in Olivia and Violet’s eyes. We can’t wait to see that same excitement in another child’s eyes as well.
